Frequently Asked Questions

We believe in making your start as smooth as possible. The absolute essentials are surprisingly simple:

1. A Guitar: Any functional guitar will do! It doesn't need to be expensive. Whether it's an old acoustic in the attic or a new electric guitar, the key is that it can hold its tune. For absolute beginners, many find a nylon-string acoustic guitar to be gentler on the fingertips, but a steel-string acoustic or an electric guitar are perfectly fine choices as well. The best guitar to start with is the one you have access to.

2. A Device with Internet: You'll need a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with a stable internet connection to access our platform, watch video lessons, and participate in live coaching sessions.

Highly Recommended Gear: While not strictly necessary to begin, these items will dramatically improve your learning experience. We suggest getting a guitar pick (a variety pack with different thicknesses is great to find your preference), and a tuner. A clip-on electronic tuner is fantastic for accuracy, but there are many great free tuner apps for your smartphone.

Optional but Helpful: As you progress, you might consider a guitar strap to practice standing up, a capo to easily change keys, and a small amplifier if you're playing an electric guitar. The most important thing is not to let a lack of gear stop you. StrumSphere provides the curriculum, the tools, and the expert guidance; you just need the instrument.

Absolutely! In fact, you are precisely the person we've designed our foundational curriculum for. We understand that starting from zero can be incredibly intimidating. The internet is flooded with information, and it's impossible to know where to begin. StrumSphere was built to solve this exact problem by providing a clear, structured, and encouraging path from your very first day.

Our 'Foundations' learning path assumes you know nothing. We don't just show you a G chord; we break it down into micro-steps. We explain how to hold the guitar, the names of the strings, how to press down a string without getting that annoying buzzing sound, and provide specific, slow-motion exercises to build your finger strength and dexterity. Our instructors are not just amazing players; they are patient educators who specialize in making complex ideas simple and celebrating your small wins.

Furthermore, our community has dedicated forums for beginners where you can ask any question, no matter how 'silly' you think it is, and receive supportive feedback from peers and instructors. We believe anyone can learn to play the guitar with the right guidance, and we've built StrumSphere to be that definitive guide for your entire musical journey.

Our one-on-one coaching is the heart of the StrumSphere experience, offering true mentorship tailored specifically to you. The process is seamless. First, you browse our instructor profiles, read their bios, and see their specialties. Using our built-in scheduling system, you book a 30 or 60-minute session at a time that fits your calendar.

The session itself takes place through a high-quality, secure video call right in your browser—no extra software needed. It's not a rigid, one-way lecture. Your instructor will start by asking about your progress, what you've been practicing, and where you're feeling stuck. From there, the lesson is completely dynamic. They might demonstrate a new technique up close, watch you play and provide immediate, actionable feedback ("Try moving your thumb down on the back of the neck for better reach"), or even create a custom exercise for you on the spot.

After the session, you're not left on your own. Your instructor will update your student dashboard with a personalized practice plan for the week, often including notes, new tabs to work on, and specific goals. It's the most efficient and effective way to overcome hurdles and ensure you're always moving forward, making it the ultimate tool for rapid, tangible progress.

Yes, of course, and we've made the process very simple. We believe that the student-instructor relationship is key to successful learning, and finding the perfect fit is a priority for us. While many students form a long-term bond with their instructor, we understand that needs can change.

You might want to switch for a variety of positive reasons. For example, you might have spent six months mastering rock and blues techniques with one instructor and now want to dive deep into jazz harmony with another who specializes in that genre. Or perhaps you simply feel your learning style would connect better with a different teaching personality. We see this flexibility as a major strength of our platform.

To make a change, you can simply submit a request through your student dashboard or contact our support team. We will help facilitate a smooth transition. Importantly, all of your progress, lesson history, and notes are tied to your StrumSphere profile, not a specific instructor. This means your new coach can review your entire journey on the platform and pick up exactly where you left off, ensuring a seamless and continuous learning experience without missing a beat.

We aim for our policies to be both fair and transparent. We have two main types of cancellations:

For Monthly/Annual Subscriptions: You are in complete control. You can cancel your subscription at any time directly from your account settings page. Your cancellation will become effective at the end of your current billing cycle. This means if your plan renews on the 30th and you cancel on the 15th, you will retain full access to all your course materials and platform features until the 30th. Please note that we do not offer prorated refunds for the remaining days in a billing period.

For One-on-One Coaching Sessions: These sessions involve the dedicated time of our instructors, so we require at least 24 hours' notice for any cancellation or rescheduling. If you cancel or reschedule a session with more than 24 hours' notice, the session credit is returned to your account, and you can use it to book a new time slot without any penalty. If a cancellation occurs within 24 hours of the scheduled start time, the session will be forfeited. This policy ensures that our instructors' time is respected and allows other students to book available slots. We may make exceptions for documented emergencies, which are handled on a case-by-case basis by our support team. For complete details, please refer to our full Terms of Service.
